Presenting a Gift

We all know that presenting a gift to a friend or family member is fairly easy but presenting a gift at work, at school, at church or in another social situation that is more formal can be difficult.

Outline for the presentation of a gift to an individual

  1. Tell Mr S that you have been chosen to present him with the gift on behalf of everybody in the organisation and state the reason he is receiving the gift
  2. Tell him something about the gift. What it is, what it does and any other feature.
  3. Tell him the gift is given as an expression of : Gratitiude for service rendered such as
    • Breaking a record
    • Showing how well a task can be performed
    • Giving real inspiration
    • Long service
    • Outstanding sales figures
  4. Tell him you hope the gift will bring back happy memories

If you can inject a little humour in your speech it will be welcome but do not leave out true sentiment. Make sure your speech sounds sincere.

How to present a gift to an organisation

The following outline is useful if the gift is for an institution or organisation. You may not

need to use all of these point sand you can, of course, add yuor own.

  1. State the purpose of the gathering
  2. Talk a bit about the gift itself
    • What it is
    • It's history
    • How the idea for its presentation originated
  3. Tell why it is being given. Does it fill a need of the organisation.
  4. If in memory of an event state the characteristics of the event and the siginifcance of the event.
  5. If in memory of a person state the characteristics and significance of his life
