Speak clearly with Confidence

Okay, you've got to speak in front of people and you're terrified!!

Having to speak in front of a group scares most people (and believe me, I know) - it might be a wedding, a classroom, a reading in church or even reading a story to a group of children.

Please see the Site Map for a complete list of topics covered as I don't have room on the navigation bar for all of them! Elocution is back in fashion - suddenly people are realising that we all need to be able to talk clearly. We all want to feel confident when we talk so forget all your old ideas of boring elocution lessons that make you sound 'posh', the elocution lessons I give are both fun and instructional.

If you want to get into University in England, extra UCAS points can be gained if you take LAMDA exams - click button on left for more details.

What do you think of when you hear the word elocution?

Most people who are familiar with the word think it's something to do with sounding 'posh'.

I think it's the art and skill of communicating clearly and confidently.

When I teach elocution I teach you how to communicate at the correct pace (not too fast but not too slow), at the correct volume and with expression. Talking with expression doesn't mean speaking dramatically, it means using your voice to sound interesting and exciting. If you sound expressive, people will want to listen to you.

Good articulation (saying the ends of words and correct vowel sounds) and accent reduction can also be achieved with practice - although a lot of people love their accent so it's worth remebering that you can sound clear and confident with an accent as long as it's not too overbearing.

Perhaps you just want to improve your voice for everyday use.

A fear of speaking can prevent us from getting on in life. Most of us chat quite easily to friends and family, so find out how to move this skill on to talking to people you don't know.

Public speaking covers a huge range of events.

  • A businessman giving a business presentation.

  • A first aider demonstrating first aid skills.

  • A sports coach giving a group session.

  • The best man or maid of honor speaking at a wedding reception.

  • A teacher standing in front of a class of children.

The list is endless.

All these people need to use their voice, they need to open their mouths, dress comfortably, breathe correctly, oh, and smile!! - then the speech can begin.

Whatever type of speech you're giving the basic skills needed are the same. Some of these skills are technical - correct posture for example. Some are just common sense - like how to stop saying 'um' when you are talking.

On the following pages you will find out:

  • How to talk so that you can be heard - anywhere!
  • How to appear confident - even if you are nervous.

  • How to enjoy yourself - really!

Now, let's find out how by visiting the popular pages listed below.....
