Could your children speak more clearly and would you like to help them do that?
'Helping children to speak' is a 48 page manual (you will also receive 17 lesson plans free) written by me,Serena Greenslade A.N.E.A. Read my story here
The most useful skill we can teach our children is the ability to speak clearly and confidently - this will help them at pre school, school, college, university and for all of their adult life.
For other information about helping children to speak clearly please look
here.
How would your children benefit if you help them to speak clearly ?
The benefits are numerous and we all want the best for our children.
Children who can speak clearly and confidently are happy children
Children who can speak clearly and confidently are more likely to be top of their class because they're not frightened to speak or ask the teacher questions.
Children who can speak clearly and confidently are willing to join in social events - parties, clubs, sports etc. They don't need to have a parent with them all the time because they can speak for themselves. You, as a parent don't need to worry if they'll ask to use the toilet etc.
Children who can speak clearly and confidently are successful children.
Confident, successful children sleep well at night.
'Helping children to speak' is written so that anyone who can speak english can understand it. Yuu don't need to be an expert in phonetics or grammar and I guarantee that everyone will learn from this manual.
Your 48 page manual 'Helping children to speak' will include all of the following:
There's a section on breathing for speaking (which is probably not the way you would expect to breathe)
It explains how you can read aloud to your children with ease
It shows how the sounds are made in your mouth so you can help your child with any basic sound they find difficult
It shows you how to help your child prepare a talk for school, what you need to do first and what and how you need to write it down. These 'show and tells' are often used as a way to assess your child for the National Curriculum SATS tests in England.
How should your child stand when they speak? It's all here.
It tells you how to practise, how your child should hold their speech and the importance of underlining.
Most people panic when they speak in front of people and this causes them to speak too quickly. In this 48 page book you'll find the simplest way in the world to slow down!
Another problem a lot of listeners have is that they find it hard to hear the speaker. Once again there's a simple remedy.
If your main problem is that you're stuck for a title, choose from the list in the book.
Learn from the list of 10 top tips for confident speaking.
Use this book to help your child now and keep dipping into it as they grow older. The information in this book will help young children, teenagers who have become too reliant on texts and emails, university students who find they have to give presentations at tutorials and adults in the workplace who suddenly find everyone else seems to sound more confident than they do!
Any one of any age will benefit from this information and if you just keep reminding your child of the tips in this book they won't need it again until they have children!
All of the information comes from personal experience, either mine or the people I have taught over the years.
For those of you who want a little more technical detail the importance of articulationand how to articulate is explained - which organs of speech to use for which sound. Expressive speechis explained using the four 'p's'.
There's a page in 'Helping children to speak' about reading aloud because children love to be read to.
One of the best ways to get better at speaking is to read out loud and for this reason there are 8 original poems included in 'Helping children to speak', written especially to be said aloud.
Finally, we come to the voice exercises. All parts of the body need exercise and the mouth is no different. Here you'll see how to exercise all the organs of speech.
I've included diagrams if I think it makes it easier for you to understand, all hand drawn so they show exactly what you need to know.

I was a very shy child but now I can talk to anyone
My school life from the age of 5 - 11 was not terribly enjoyable. When I was about ten, my school had a parents evening - you know the type of thing -the parents go along and chat to the teachers to find out how their children are getting on. I remember my teacher well - he was young and not very chatty (at least not with ten year olds). During the course of the conversation with my mum, he told her that I seemed happy enough but that he couldn't remember speaking to me during the year!
My mum was furious. I was an incredibly shy girl and if he didn't speak to me I certainly wasn't going to go out of my way to speak to him.
As a result my mum took me to Elocution lessons and I have to say it was probably the most useful thing I have ever done. I thoroughly enjoyed these lessons and took - and passed - various exams in speech and drama and bible reading and took part every year in the Bournemouth Festival.
These lessons gave me confidence but didn't change the way I sound - I still have a slight Dorset accent and I believe we shouldn't all sound the same.
Not only has it given me my career (I qualified as an elocution teacher) but more importantly it gave me the confidence to speak!
I have now written 'Helping children to speak' which explains to you, as parents or teachers how to encourage your children to speak more clearly. Although this is written for parents the information is particularly good for anyone of any age who has to give a talk, speech or presentation at school, college or work.
