About me
I'm Serena and I hope that you've found the information on this site useful. I was a terrified child who was too frightened to speak. I hated anything to do with oral communication or speech classes and especially having to give informative speeches.
My school life from the age of 5 - 11 was terrible. I hated being spoken to by a teacher because it usually meant I had to speak back. When I was 10 my mum took me to elocution lessons and I have to say it was probably the most useful thing I have ever done.
Not only has it given me my career (I qualified as a speech trainer) but more importantly it gave me the confidence to speak!
I have now produced information which explains simply how to speak more clearly. It's full of useful tips and is particularly good for anyone of any age who has to give an informative speech, talk, or presentation at school, college or work.
It's particularly great for anyone in a speech class or on an oral communication class.
Help with giving an informative speech is here
It tells you how to prepare your informative speech, what you need to do first and what and how you need to write it down.
It tells you how to practise, how to hold your speech and all about underlining.
Most people panic when they speak in front of people and this causes them to speak too quickly. In this 58 page book you'll find the simplest way in the world to slow down!
Another problem a lot of listeners have is that they find it hard to hear the speaker. Once again there's a simple remedy and you'll find it here.
If your main problem about giving an informative speech is that you're stuck for a title for your informative speech choose from the list of 20 I've included.
All of this information comes from personal experience, either mine or the people I have taught over the years.
For those of you who want a little more technical detail I've also explained the importance of articulation and how to articulate - which organs of speech to use for which sound. Expressive speech is explained using the four 'p's'.
There's a page about reading aloud - something we all think we can do but it's actually a bit harder than it seems.
People don't often associate reading aloud with giving an informative speech but it's very important to be able to effectively read aloud.
One of the best ways to get better at speaking in public is to read out loud and for this reason I've included 8 original poems, written especially to be said aloud.
Finally, we come to the voice exercises. All parts of the body need exercise and the mouth is no different. Here you'll see how to exerise all the organs of speech.
I've included diagrams if I think it makes it easier to understand, all hand drawn by me so they show exactly what I want them to show.
