Thinking of demonstration speech topics can be very difficult but quite often at school you are asked to give a demonstration speech.
This speech is very similar to an informative speech but is a little more physical. As well as informing your listeners you need to show them how to do something!
If it's impossible to actually demonstrate your topic you must take in plenty of diagrams and as many of the items involved as possible.
Please make sure that whatever you choose to demonstrate is safe - check if anything electrical is needed and avoid the use of knives.
Remember that it will take longer to properly demonstrate something than it would if you were just talking about it.
If the audience are to follow your instructions make sure that they all have the correct materials and that there is enough space and proper facilities for them to take part.
Make very good use of the pause - this will give you a chance to demonstrate while you're taking a breath and the listeners will get a chance to concentrate on what you're doing and what they have to do without having to concentrate on your words at the same time.
Make sure you've planned your demonstration in the right order. You don't want to get to step 5 of the deomonstration and realise you should have done something in step 2 that you forgot!
Planning is essential.
Have a beginning - explaining what you're going to demonstrate and why you've chosen that particular topic.
Have a middle - this is where you wil demonstrate and instruct and hopefully your audience will be able to follow your instructions.
If you can see some of the audience are struggling, don't rush ahead, wait and explain again.
Have an ending - show off your fnished product. If you're feeling brave you can ask if anyone has any questions.
