Become a good Car Salesman

Did you know that you can use your voice to become a good car salesman?

Most of us, at one time or another have to sell a car. We may not be a car salesman but we should all be able to sell a car.

One of the most important aspects of good communication is listening. By listening to what your prospective buyer is saying you can increase your chances of selling.

For example if your buyer says he's looking for a sporty car to use at weekends, make sure you emphasize how fast your car is - in this instance he's probably not too bothered about fuel economy.

Your buyer might want a family car or a car for their daughter or son. Do they do a lot of miles and do they need loads of space for the shopping?

All these things should make a difference.

If you're selling a small car that's very economical make sure that you emphasize this fact. Use your voice to sound excited about how many miles to the gallon it does. Tell them how often you need to fill the car up - "Do you know I only have to go to the garage once every two weeks!" and make the words garage, once, and two weeks stand out. It may be small car but has it got a reasonable sized boot (trunk)? Mention how many bags of shopping you can get in it and use your hands to indicate the size.

To practise this, use your hands to describe how big a fish you've just caught is. It's surprising how much bigger it sounds if you hold your arms out! A good car salesman will use their body as well as their voice to sell a car.

Use this method if you're selling a large family car or an estate car with loads of space.

A luxury car needs to sound beautiful, again emphasize space - plenty of leg room, emphasise the smooth ride (elongate the word 'smoooooth').

Fast cars need to sound fast, don't sound too serious (although if it's a classic car you can show off your knowledge a little). Fast cars (and classic cars) are bought for fun and excitement not for their reliabilty and usefulness.

Finally, give the buyer a chance to make their mind up, let them sit in the car and please don't push them into buying something they don't want.
